A summer heat wave, a Devon beach and a friend's wedding, what more could you ask for? Back in the summer Rachel and Luke got married at Woolacombe Bay Hotel in North Devon and I was lucky enough to be their photographer. The cherry on top of it all is that I'm friends with these two and it's always wonderful to capture a wedding for two people you know. Just down the road at Putsborough is where Luke proposed, so it makes sense that their wedding day was right next to the beach.
My day started with the groomsmen at Woolacombe Beach for a morning swim. The guys wedged themselves into their speedos (provided by Luke of course) and braved the water. I got as far as my rolled up trousers allowed me, to quickly learn that it wasn't quite enough. Did you know that windscreen wipers make for a handy peg device to help dry your clothes? I popped up to see Rachel and her bridesmaids getting ready and before we knew it it was time for the ceremony in the grand ceremony room of Woolacombe Bay Hotel.

It was great to see some old friends, and couples that I had photographed their weddings, including Luke's sister, Jo. Most of the afternoon was spent in the sun in the hotel's grounds, playing garden games and enjoying canapés. One of the highlight's was the wedding speeches, including Rachel's sister who is infamous for being a little susceptible to crying, happy tears of course, and their dad having to step in and finish the speech. And who doesn't love a game of Mr and Mrs!? It was a fun night of dancing and laughter, and with the late sunset we popped down to the beach for some photos for the last of the summer light. A fantastic wedding day indeed!
