The Oak Barn Wedding Photography

Katherine & Calum

(Updated 2023)

Early winter I found myself near Hittisleigh, Devon, for some Oak Barn wedding photography. I was so excited when Katherine & Callum got in touch, and the day did not disappoint. A great way to round off my wedding season. Below is the story of their wedding day...

The Morning & Ceremony

I headed up the A30 to The Oak Barn to capture the preparations with Katherine and her bridesmaids, getting ready in one of the three converted barns. Hair and makeup was in full swing. It wasn't long until we were all heading back East for the ceremony, held at St Michael and All Angels Church in Pinhoe, Exeter.

Upon arrival the low winter light helped me capture some nice moments of Katherine and her dad making their way to the church. It was a lovely ceremony, and I find there's always at least one point when everyone laughs, this time it was Bernard, the vicar, getting Katherine's birthday wrong, well corrected by Calum!

Wedding Photograper at The Oak Barn

We all headed back to The Oak Barn, and after settling back in we took a stroll around the barns and gardens for some portraits. We also headed off to the surrounding fields to take advantage of the lovely evening light.

Dinner (provided by Oak Tree Occasions) and speeches were held in the main barn. The highlight for me was Calum taking pride, even celebrating, in bringing a tear to Katherine's eye! A job well done. The evening included some sparklers, winter fires and fantastic music by Quite Brazen. It was a lovely first dance quickly followed by some fun and craziness, a great way to end a fantastic wedding day.

"Thank you Lee for our gorgeous wedding photos! We genuinely can't stop looking at them... You captured the day brilliantly (we love some of the shots of the more 'merry' guests) and we are so so SO delighted."

FAQ

Are you a recommended supplier?

How much is an Oak Barn wedding photographer?

Yes, I'm pleased to say I am a recommended supplier of The Oak Barn. Having photographed their a few times over the last nine years I'm always happy to receive an Oak Barn enquiry. What's great about the venue for guests is the feeling total seclusion in the countryside whilst being so accessible from the a30. The owners are a delight to work with a make the day that bit more special.

You can see my wedding pricing here. Upon researching photographers you'll likely find a variety of prices based on a few factors, the two main being experience of the photographer and what their 'package' includes. I personally prefer to keep things super simple and offer one price that provides unlimited coverage. I'm there all day, with no cap on the photos delivered or gallery limits.

How many photos do you deliver?

Can you recommend a trusted supplier?

It's a popular question, with a variable answer. I don't limit the number of images I shoot on the day, or subsequently edit thereafter. I include in the gallery every photo I believe reflects your wedding day and to the high standard I set for myself. A typical all day wedding would receive between 600-900 wedding images.

Absolutely! I've seen a few brilliant suppliers at Oak Barn weddings. The talented band Quite Brazen are great entertainment for the reception. The catering for this wedding was provided by Oak Tree Occasions, another great choice. The Oak Barn team have a recommended supplier list too.

The Oak Barn Wedding Venue

In the middle of Devon, just on the edge of Dartmoor, surrounded by rolling countryside you'll find The Oak Barn. It's a fantastic wedding venue in which I had the pleasure of photographing Katherine and Calum's wedding day! The venue is a great choice for couples who are seeking a blank canvas to style their day. It seems every year the venue improves with new additions and updates. Katharine (the owner not the bride) and her husband have done a wonderful job of restoring the barns, and have been holding weddings for six years now. This was my second time as a wedding photographer Devon at The Oak Barn and since then they've restored a new barn, with corrugated iron as a feature, making for a nice photo backdrop.
