For the second post of the Rewind Mini Series I'm going to be looking at the wedding preparations. It's a blog series where I look back at 8 images from a moment of the wedding day and pick some of my favourites from recent years.
Wedding Morning Preparations
The majority of weddings I photograph include covering the bridal prep, and occasionally the groom prep. It's a great way for me to start the day. I get to meet the whole bridal party, and if I'm honest I don't even start shooting immediately. I want to provide a bit of time for people to see me, understand who I am and introduce myself.
From there, like the rest of the wedding day, I capture what happens (see my portfolio). It's a time for the couples to enjoy their friend's company and look forward to what's ahead, and I'm not going to interfere with that. What that means is that I get to see a whole range of emotions, from nervous anticipation to excited joy.
A big benefit for covering the preparations is that it's going to be an unknown to the other spouse. When the images are delivered they weren't present at the time and they get to experience that part of the day. When I look back at these 8 images I can imagine Sophie having a laugh at Frank and his groomsmen struggling with their bow ties (thank you YouTube) and Zizi seeing how many hands it required for Katie to put together those finishing touches.
It's an opportunity to capture those little details and the exciting atmosphere. More Rewind posts to follow soon.
