Kefalonia Destination Wedding Photographer
Kelly & Scott
It’s fair to say this isn’t a typical wedding blog, it’s a wedding with a difference. This is the wedding of Scott and Kelly, who just happen to be my brother and now sister-in-law! For months they worked away, planning and figuring out what/how/where they would hold their destination wedding. After a scouting mission, they settled on the beautiful Greek island of Kefalonia. The date was booked, we knew where we would be spending one week in September. From that point on, I lost count the amount of times I was asked “Are you going to photograph the wedding?” It’s a common dilemma in the photographer world, what do you do when you attend a family wedding? Leave your cameras at home or bring them along and grab a couple shots? Without generalising, it’s common on the islands, where destination weddings are popular, that you have more traditional wedding photography available, less so of the documentary approach. The ceremony and family shots were covered by the lovely Maria, a local photographer, the option to include me was there, and foolishly or not Kelly and Scott went for it!
This is the first family wedding I’ve been around for since becoming a wedding photographer. It was quite an experience to witness it all. Seeing my brother get married, catching up with family and old friends. From a photo perspective Rebecca, Eve and Zoe were finally able to see what I actually do when I drive off on a typical Saturday morning. It was an absolute joy to shoot. There were moments the cameras were put down and had a drink and a chat, but I really wanted these two to have some photos to remember the whole day…
So here it is, their destination wedding, held at the Andromeda Centre, in Kefalonia, Greece.
There’s a Behind The Scenes Kefalonia blog post below about how we spent the rest of the week. We weren’t short of opportunities for a swim and a cocktail or two…
[…] For one week in September, we found ourselves on the scenic island of Kefalonia, Greece. We were there for a family wedding, and as a wedding photographer the cameras came along with me. This a small selection of the images from our family holiday, six days of swimming, exploring and cocktails. The seventh day of course was for the wedding. […]
