[BTS] No.9 Porto Street Photography

Porto is a fantastic city. I made my first visit last year towards the end of winter, and I've just returned from a second trip. Along with getting some much needed vitamin D, the main reason for these trips was to get ready for the wedding season. Before I get back into action proper I want to ensure I've shaken off any winter rust and hit the ground running. There's no better way than dedicating some time to street photography. Being observant, anticipating moments and getting some miles on your feet to build back up to those 14 hour shifts.
If you've ever seen one of these BTS posts before you might already know I like to take on some personal projects along with my wedding work. I've experimented with film photography, got front row access to some brilliant live music and I'm always happy to be out grabbing some landscape shots but aside from weddings themselves nothing will get you warmed up like street photography.
This is a collection of images from two different trips, roughly one year apart, on two different camera systems. The most recent being on the Fuji x100vi, which despite it's odd quirks is a brilliant camera for this type of work. Aside from the odd pit stop for a Super Bock and a pastel de nata, my day was to simply explore the city and document it. The city typically comes alive from 10am and after about 25,000 steps or so it'd be close to sunset where I always returned to the same viewpoint overlooking the famous Dom Luís I Bridge hoping for golden hour panoramic landscape. After eight different attempts, on my final evening after a storm passed through the city it finally came together.
Maybe I return again next year, maybe I find a different location, but one thing for sure is my first wedding of 2025 will be better off because of this experience, and I'm buzzing to get back to it!
