         Ash Rescue Centre Wedding Photography

After a quick hello with Paul and the vicar I hear the deep rumble of an exhaust outside the church grounds. Sure enough, it’s the bridal party driving up the narrow road in American muscle cars! So when Amy pops out of a ’68 Mustang GT I knew I was in for a fantastic wedding! It set the tone for the whole day, a wedding full of pleasant surprises. With hindsight I now know Amy and Paul completely undersold what a great day they were putting together. They had the perfect blend of having a relaxed approach, whilst providing a wedding for their friends and family to really enjoy.

The ceremony was held at the beautiful St John Baptist Church in Marldon, Devon. A lovely service filled with character, after which we made our way to Ash Rescue Centre, found just outside of Dartmouth. I discovered that it’s the first wedding at Ash Rescue Centre of 2016, and only the second wedding ever. It’s a charity that looks after retired horses, and in turn has plenty of outdoor space which includes an amazing garden and music stage. It’s definitely a venue to keep an eye out for!

It’s fair to say that Paul is a ‘car guy’ and we took a few images with the classic cars. But I’m pleased to say that the Mustang only needed mechanical attention after arriving at the venue! Amy instead is the animal fan, so we couldn’t not take advantage of the horses for a few shots.

We took a 10 minute (literally 10 minutes) stroll around the gardens for some portraits before heading to the marquee for the speeches and a huge ploughman’s lunch. Paul by trade is a tree surgeon, so there was a clear theme to the day with the venue and added features, from food to table names to the wood sculptures.

Then out comes the mechanical bull as part of the evening entertainment, which went down a storm. After the evening guests arrived it was time for the first dance, which was to the tune of “Ooga-chaka ooga-ooga ooga-chaka” aka Hooked On A Feeling by Blue Suede. I’m not going to lie, upon initially hearing it I was a little surprised, but when you listen to the lyrics it’s such a great choice, look it up, a great wedding day song!

On the drive back home it was hard to re-count the number of unique elements to this day, but I did know how lucky I was the one to be their to photograph it! Congratulations Amy and Paul, here are just a few images from their big day…

“Thank you so much for the pictures, they are absolutely beautiful! You have really captured the feeling of the day and documented all of the important bits for us to remember. We are having a photo sharing evening tonight with all of the family and we can’t wait to show everyone the pictures.”
