My last June wedding was with the wonderful Lisa and Mark at Torre Abbey. It was the full wedding experience, from preparations all the way through to the first dance, and Lisa and Mark put together a great day for their friends and family to enjoy.
I met Lisa and Mark last year, however it was just three days prior to the wedding day that we went on a 'scouting mission' to Torre Abbey, and seeing it in person it becomes clear what a grand venue it really is, It was a day to be excited about.
Meeting Lisa a couple of times, and exchanging emails over the months leading up to the big day, I was confident that Lisa would be a great bride to shoot. A blend of being organised but relaxed in equal measure, and when starting the day with bridal preparations it confirmed everything I thought. Lisa was really calm about the whole process and created a easy start to a fun packed day.
The ceremony took place in the Undercroft of Torre Abbey. It's part of the abbey open to the public on a normal day, a really unique venue to hold a ceremony with it's stone pillars and arch ceilings. This is where scouting a venue becomes really valuable because it became clear that with the small window space there was little natural light available and flash would be essential to get the photos.
Moving on from the ceremony it was time to mingle and get the couple/group photos. Taking full advantage of the abbey grounds, we used the historic building as a back drop for most of the images. After a brief downpour it was on to the Spanish Barn in which the reception would be held. The best thing about the reception was that it included so much entertainment for the guests. Including a pitch and putt, bouncy castle and coconut shy. Providing some photo firsts for me, getting golf action shots in a shirt and tie for one.
It was a fantastic day with lovely guests, some of whom travelled a long way to be there. It was a proper celebration of a wedding and I was really honoured to be there to capture it. Congratulations Lisa and Mark!
